Morrisons sales up as 3,600 jobs cut and 17 shops closed

MORRISONS has axed over 3,600 jobs and 17 stores even though sales have been rising this year.

The chain reduced its workforce from 104,819 to 101,144 in 2024 as it made a £2.1billion pretax profit.

Sales revenue declined from £18.3bn to £17bn during the period.

However, the retailer reported growth in like-for-like sales of 3.9% in the second quarter of its current financial year, with total sales up 4.2% to £3.9bn.

The job cuts were made across store and distribution staff, head office employees and manufacturing workers.
