Met chief calling for change in law after TV writer's arrest

THE head of the Metropolitan Police has called for free speech laws to be rewritten following the arrest of comedy writer Graham Linehan over online posts.
Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley said officers should not be “policing toxic culture war debates”, adding they are “in an impossible position”.
He warned of more controversial arrests unless free speech laws are urgently changed.
Father Ted creator Mr Linehan, 57, has announced plans to sue the force over his treatment. He was arrested at Heathrow Airport over three posts he had made on X about trans issues.
