Making fantasy island a reality...
Daily Express
|February 18, 2026
The Ballad Of Wallis Island is up for three awards at this Sunday's Baftas - the British Academy of Film and Television Arts’ annual honours and precursor to Hollywood's Oscars.
The film is a bittersweet comedy about a lottery winner who holds a private concert on his remote Welsh island and it has been hailed as a typical example of British eccentricity. But who wouldn't want to celebrate owning an island, especially if it's as picturesque as Ynys Gifftan in North Wales’ Dwyryd Estuary, which is currently on sale for just £350,000 (01248 362536; carterjonas.co.uk).
At nearly 18 acres, the private tidal island is in the heart of Snowdonia, now known as Eryri National Park, with exceptional views of the wide sandy estuary and beautiful mountains.
It includes a two-bedroom farmhouse and stone-built outbuilding, both described as in need of extensive renovation that, as estate agents Carter Jonas point out, would be subject to planning permission.
