Lionesses skipper Williamson knows 'relentless' Swedes are no turnips
Daily Express
|July 15, 2025
LEAH WILLIAMSON feels England's Euro 2025 quarter-final opponents Sweden have been disrespected - by being left out of conversations about the tournament favourites. Peter Gerhardsson's team won all three of their group matches, including an impressive 4-1 victory against Germany on Saturday. But Spain, France and
England have dominated most of the talk about potential champions in Switzerland.
Holders England face Sweden on Thursday in what could be an explosive tie, with the two teams scoring 19 goals between them in the group stages. The Lionesses booked their place in the last eight with a 6-1 win against Wales on Sunday, but Williamson is not getting carried away.
The England captain, 28, said: "Sweden are a fantastic team.
"They are relentless in the way they go about their game.
"They sort of avoid the expectation at every tournament and nobody really talks about them, [which is] slightly disrespectful.
