Licence rise a turn-off for hard-pressed Brits

THE hike in the BBC licence fee to £180 will incense Britons who never use its services.

Why are people on low incomes forced to pay for channels and stations they do not tune into? This is the definition of a regressive tax.

The situation would be less intolerable if the broadcaster was not mired in scandal and if it pumped out the finest programming in the world.

But too often its output is smug, woke and derivative.
