Joblessness 'could wipe out a whole generation'

FORMER Labour health secretary Alan Milburn said there is a “real risk of a lost generation” as he probes high joblessness among young people.

One in eight are not in education, employment or training, and Mr Milburn said: “If those young people formed a city it would be the third biggest in the UK.”

The Milburn Review will look at the causes of this inactivity among 16 to 24-year-olds and aims to produce a report with solutions by the spring.
