SURROUNDED by hunky polo players may have been Jilly Cooper's ideal way to mark the start of "outdoor season" mentioned in many of her bonkbusters.
Her fans have labelled May 1 Jilly Cooper Day as it is when al fresco fun and frolics begin in her Rutshire novels. But yesterday was tinged with sadness for her readers and the cast of Rivals, back for a second series this month.
In October, Jilly, 88, died suddenly following a fall in her home, six months into filming.
Showrunner Dominic Treadwell-Collins said the entire cast and crew, was hugely shocked by Dame Jilly's death.
He said: "I always thought Jilly Cooper was going to be amazing television. It gave Jilly the most amazing second lease of life and joy."
