Jenny shrugs off claim Midwife set is haunted

CALL The Midwife star Jenny Agutter has dismissed claims by fellow cast members who think the setting for the series is haunted. But she admits she sometimes feels she could be "swallowed up" by the "ancient" ground in Cornwall where she lives.

The actress, 72, believes the BBC drama's enduring success is down to being rooted in realism, saying so-called "reality" shows are anything but.

Rebecca Gethings, who plays Sister Veronica, admitted before Christmas that she has to be accompanied on bathroom breaks during filming on the Surrey set because she finds the way there so spooky.

She told how, during filming last year, the show's medic took a photo into the darkness having heard a bang.
