DAN EVANS and Jack Draper triumphed in style to earn Great Britain a superb victory over Australia in their opening match at the Davis Cup in Manchester.

Evans claimed his best win in the competition as he beat world No.12 Alex de Minaur – the highest-ranked player in Group B – 6-1 2-6 6-4.

That sealed Britain’s victory after Draper made it a debut to remember by beating Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-7 6-3 7-6 in front of a jubilant 9,000-strong crowd at the AO Arena.

With the match safe, Australia did win the doubles, Max Purcell and Matthew Ebden beating Evans and Neal Skupski 7-6 6-4.
