Inflation drops to the lowest since March

INFLATION dropped last month offering a glimmer of pre-Christmas cheer for households struggling with the cost of living.

The rate of Consumer Prices Index inflation fell to 3.2% in November, from 3.6% in October, the Office for National Statistics said yesterday.

The dip was driven by food prices which were down 0.2%, with the biggest declines coming from bread and cereals, as well as dairy, sugar, jam and chocolate.

It marks the lowest CPI rate since March and a bigger reduction than the 3.5% most economists were expecting for the month. But it remains above the 2% target.
