Huntington's breakthrough slows disease

HUNTINGTON’S disease has been slowed for the first time with a “groundbreaking” new treatment.

Experts said the findings could “change everything” for patients with the fatal condition that affects movement, thinking and mood.

Those given a high dose of the AMT-130 gene therapy via brain surgery had 75% less disease progression after 36 months.

The study from University College London and pharma firm uniQure follow an early stage trial with 29 patients. A single dose is expected to last for life.
