Brook displays nerves of steel as England win real nail-biter

HARRY BROOK wrote his name into Headingley folklore with an innings forged under the most extreme pressure that kept the Ashes alive.

On this famous old ground where drama and excitement seem to go hand in glove Ashes with cricket, one of Yorkshire's favourite sons took the series off life support and, with the help of Chris Woakes and the long handle of Mark Wood, gave it the most glorious shots of in the arm.

It Woakes was playing in his first Test for 15 months who struck the winning runs.

He cut the ball away for four towards the Western Terrace, taking England past their target of 251 and to the warm embrace of a three-wicket triumph.

But it was Brook's 75 from 93 balls that carried them most of the way and showed he has the temperament to go with the big-hitting technique that is needed in the toughest of situations.
