Defining Islamophobia 'shields the bad'
AN official definition of Islamophobia risks dividing Britain and making it harder to stop criminals, a leading think-tank has warned.
A report by Policy Exchange has urged ministers not to bow to pressure to adopt a formal definition of discrimination against Muslims.
The group warns such a move would create a “two-tier” policy of treating people differently based on their religion, pointing out that the fear of “being branded racist or anti-Muslim” prevented the Rotherham grooming gang scandal in South Yorkshire being stopped.
The report came after it emerged the Government planned to appoint a council on Islamophobia, to advise on drawing up an official definition.
