Gill seeks the advice of King Kohli as new-look India aim to follow illustrious footsteps on tour

Headingley today, Gill has huge boots to fill, having succeeded Rohit Sharma as Test captain last month to become the 37th man to take the role.

Kohli stood down as skipper three years ago, then retired from Test cricket last month, having established himself as one of the greatest batters and leaders of all time.

Gill said: “I spoke to him and he told me about his experience of playing for India in England. We talked about the challenges we might face here.

“He captained one of the best teams I’ve ever been part of. He told me how India went about that last series in England, and I will try to do something similar this time.
