Matt says luck was reason he followed abysmal 79 with a 69
MATT FITZPATRICK ended frustrating US Open campaign on a high with an under-par final round that he attributed to "luck".
Two years on from a career-defining victory in the same event at Brookline, Fitzpatrick fired a one-under 69 to finish a disappointing week on 13 over.
He was all smiles later but insisted nothing differed from his abysmal 79 the day before, a performance plagued by inconsistent ball-striking.
"Luck. That's why I played better today I got some lucky bounces," Sheffield pro Fitzpatrick said.
"Today I hit iron shots that stayed on the green and I made a couple of putts. It's been like that all week.
"It was just a bit firmer yesterday but pin placements are a big thing.
