Express led the campaign to set us free from EU

FOR decades the Daily Express has campaigned for British independence from Brussels.

Your paper has long been dubious about the arguments for closer alignment with the continent, and declared in 1973 that joining the European Economic Community would be a mistake.Since then, we have stood alongside our readers who patriotically believed our country deserved to stand outside the EU.

The Daily Express demanded a referendum, fought against meddling Eurocrats, and latterly held to account those who sought to frustrate the will of the British people, proudly championing our sovereignty.

In November 2010 we made history by becoming the first national paper to demand the UK leave the EU.
