Countdown champ who knifed rival is detained

A FORMER Countdown champion who knifed a fellow winner at a fans convention is to be detained in a hospital for an "indefinite duration", a judge ruled yesterday.
John Cowen entered the venue hosting the Focal Countdown Group gathering and stabbed fellow winner Thomas Carey in the arm, Preston Crown Court was told.
He lashed out at the Wainwright social club in Blackpool where onetime contestants from the Channel 4 quiz show and fans were holding unofficial tournaments.
