Bluebird record bid...with a Red Arrows engine

AN ICONIC British speed machine has a new jet engine to rocket her into history on the same lake where she crashed, killing her pilot, 58 years ago.

Bluebird K7 has been fitted with an updated motor that once powered the original Red Arrows' Folland Gnat aircraft.

Next year, after extensive tests, she is pencilled in to run once more on Coniston Water in the Lake District where her daredevil pilot Donald Campbell CBE died in 1967.

The 45-year-old, who set seven world records in K7 between 1955 and 1964, was attempting another when the hydroplane flipped at 328mph.
