Bigibbum....orchid among year's top plant species finds

A DAINTY orchid that belies its name, Aeranthes bigibbum, is listed among scientists' favourite plants and fungi discovered last year.

The white orchid was found in a forest in Madagascar which had been saved from clearance due to the presence of a very rare bird, the blue-beaked Helmet vanga.

Researchers say this is a perfect example of how implementing measures to rescue one species can save another.
