Streets are flooded as wild storm leads to widespread disruption

- FRANCES MILLAR

Battering Bram

BRITAIN was plunged into flooding chaos yesterday as Storm Bram wreaked havoc across the nation.

Ferries, flights and trains were cancelled and thousands of properties left without power as heavy rainfall and winds of up to 90mph caused widespread disruption.

Shocking images yesterday showed streets in York city centre completely flooded as the River Ouse overflowed after excessive showers.

The Met Office issued amber and yellow weather warnings for rain and wind, with alerts over flooding and flying debris in some areas.

Yesterday morning, 42 flights were cancelled at Dublin Airport due to strong winds, with further cancellations possible.

Part of the M66 in Greater Manchester was shut following flooding and a crash involving multiple vehicles.
