Barton to pay £35k more to settle libel claim with Vine
Daily Express
|June 20, 2024
JOEY Barton will pay a further £35,000 damages on top of £75,000 to settle a High Court libel claim with Jeremy Vine, the broadcaster's solicitors said yesterday.
Former Manchester City footballer Barton, 41, said on Tuesday he had agreed to pay Mr Vine, 59, £75,000 plus legal costs for allegations he made on X, including calling the TV and radio presenter a "big bike nonce" and a "pedo defender".
Barton admitted the accusations were "very serious" and "untrue".
But Mr Vine said the payment related to only five of 10 posts that a High Court judge ruled could defame him, and was "not the final outcome" of the case.
