£30,000 bill as 'too noisy' speed bump is scrapped

A SPEED bump that blighted the lives of a community has been removed at a cost of £30,000 — less than a year after it was installed.

The road had to close for a week while the £4,000 traffic-calming measure was demolished.

It had attracted a flood of complaints that it was too noisy because of a rattling noise whenever a vehicle drove over it.

A zebra crossing put in place by Norfolk County Council at the same time last April has stayed.

The measures in Dereham were part of a bid to make the area around Northgate High School safer for pupils and residents.
