Karl Manley, of no fixed abode, was sentenced at Chester Crown Court last week.

The 46-year-old had been found guilty of two counts of robbery.

The court heard that shortly before 9.30pm on Sunday, February 18, police received a panic alarm activation from Morrisons Daily on Gainsborough Road, Crewe.

Staff stated that two men entered the store, one armed with an axe, and demanded money from the till along with cigarettes and tobacco before leaving the premises.

They made off with between £200 and £300 in cash.
