Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's... er... Jesus

A REPORT of a church service for one of our titles’ Down Your Way pages brought me up short, not for the first time.

- Phil Wisdom is a DC Media sub-editor and a former Regional Press Awards Columnist of the Year

The preacher was attempting to establish the historical reality of Jesus, in a rather roundabout way, by asserting that there was no documentary evidence for the existence of Julius Caesar before the 14th century AD; if everyone accepted that Caesar really lived, he seemed to be arguing, then why not Christ? The report didn't say whether any of his congregation challenged this claim (possibly scavenged from one of many unintentionally hilarious American evangelical websites offering ready-to-use proofs of God's existence such as the 'fact' that a banana can be peeled so easily and fits the human hand and mouth so exactly that it must be the work of a benign Creator) but they should have, because it was wrong.
