Suspended senior official cleared of alleged gross financial misconduct
Cape Times
|February 18, 2026
THE Department of Human Settlements has no intention to challenge the decision to exonerate its corporate services deputy director-general Nelly Letsholonyane of the 11 charges following a lengthy suspension.
She was suspended in May 2019 on allegations of misconduct including gross dishonesty, misrepresentation, gross financial misconduct, gross insubordination, gross misrepresentation, gross violation of prescripts, putting the name of the department into disrepute, improper and disgraceful conduct, among others.
Letsholonyane was accused of committing an act of gross financial misconduct by binding the department to a financial commitment for an unbudgeted and unallocated compensation of employees (COE) for an annual remuneration of R221,244 per person, for eight persons, for a combined annual increasing remuneration cost of R1.77 million per annum, against the ring-fenced COE budget allocation, while she knew that the posts were neither in existence, nor vacant or funded.
