Learner dies after assault ‘over cellphone’

THEFT CLAIM
POLICE have opened a murder investigation after a Grade 10 learner at Bellville South High School died following an alleged assault by a fellow learner inside a classroom.
According to the Western Cape Education Department (WCED), the learner sustained a fatal head injury during what it described as a “serious and distressing incident” involving two Grade 10 learners.
Despite receiving immediate medical attention and being admitted to hospital, the learner died on Thursday evening, June 11.
