No objections to the other changes but alcohol and axe throwing seem a clear safety threat'

The city council held a hearing earlier this month (September 1) to consider the application to change the licence in light of the objections received.

Marcus Lavell, a representative of Boom Battle Bar, highlighted that none of the changes requested had been objected to by police or the council's environmental health team.

He also stressed that the bar was not a nightclub and was not trying to become a nightclub, as had been suggested in the objection.

Mr Lavell said Boom Battle Bar offered an alternative to nightclubs and with the variety of games and food on offer as well as alcohol, and stressed the bar had a “different nature” to a nightclub.

He added that noise levels were monitored and controlled by staff and suggested that the objector would not actually be able to hear any noise from the premises, as he said he lived around a 20-minute walk away.

Addressing the other changes requested, Mr Lavell said they wanted to reduce the number of door staff on certain days of the week as he said the bar was not busy enough to warrant having two members of door staff there.
