Military on red alert for Edsa rites, rallies

MILITARY forces are now on red alert in preparation for the 40th Anniversary of People Power Revolt on Wednesday, as well as protest actions against corruption scheduled on the same day, the Armed Forces announced on Tuesday.

In a press briefing, the AFP spokesperson Col. Francel Margaret Padilla, said this footing is a standard readiness measure to ensure troops and resources are on ready should the PNP require assistance.

When red alert is declared, all personnel are required to be at their posts at all times and all leaves and furloughs are cancelled.

"As early as 21 February, we have already raised our status to Red Alert. So, that means, our troops are on standby for any eventuality," she added.
