Council's bright idea is set to become a permanent change
Burton Mail
|September 09, 2025
DIMMING street lights has saved Leicestershire County Council more than half a million pounds.
Most street lights across the county were dimmed to 30 per cent brightness between 8pm and 7am from January 2024 to June this year.
Results showed it saved nearly £540,000 in cash, and enough energy to power up to 500 homes for a year.
Now the council's cabinet will consider plans to make the changes permanent following the results of the 18-month nighttime dimming pilot.
