BURTON allowed a commanding 26-0 lead to slip through their fingers as local rivals Derby fought back for a spectacular 40-36 win at Haslams Lane on Saturday .

The two sides served up a feast of rugby overall and Burton had been superb in the first half-hour - but they will have to be better at closing out games than this in their Regional 1 North West season.

Burton director of rugby Harry Titley was generous in his praise for Derby's comeback but obviously concerned at how his side folded after the break.

“Congratulations to Derby - a great game of rugby for the neutral, I suppose, and for the Derby fans,” said Titley.

“It was a great display for us in the first half, for the first 30 minutes.

“We played fast, kept our patience in the middle of the park, found a weakness in Derby’s defence and kept hammering away at that and we were successful, getting four tries on the board.
