‘10 million free breakfasts for primary pupils’
Burton Mail
|June 04, 2026
CHILDREN in England have had an estimated 10 million free breakfasts at clubs in their primary school, according to the Department for Education (DfE).
-
More than 300,000 children have taken part in 1,250 free breakfast clubs since the government programme began in the summer term last year.
The DfE estimated this amounts to five million hours of childcare - with each club lasting half-an-hour - potentially saving working families up to £25 million in childcare costs.
Children who take part go to school earlier every morning to eat.
