Temple Quarter 'step forward'

The former Grosvenor Hotel in Bristol remains in private hands

THE huge transformation of the area outside Bristol Temple Meads station has taken another step forward - with the appointment of the ‘placemaker’ company that will develop the area, but also a comprehensive list of the sites around the station that will be developed.

They include the site of the two derelict hotels - the Grosvenor Hotel and the George and Railway Hotel - as well as the large Holiday Inn building directly opposite the station’s main entrance, the derelict old petrol station on the corner of Redcliffe Way and what is currently the station car park at The Friary to the north of the site.

The huge Temple Quarter regeneration plans will see new flats and offices built all around the station - with some development sites as far away as the area opposite St Mary Redcliffe Church - and council chiefs said the appointment of a company called Muse was a big step forward.

There was no new updates from the city council and the Temple Quarter partnership on how the new company would unlock the sites that so far have not been developed, and a new map listing the various sites included a description of one being the ‘land around the Grosvenor Hotel’ rather than the hotel itself.
