'M not proud about this, but must admit I do find myself spending far too much time on my phone these days. It’s most irksome. And a complete waste of good energy. Sitting there, scrolling through endless social media sites filled with stupid stuff and nonsense.
-
Doomscrolling, they call it. Must say, that’s the perfect name. As I flick through page after page of inane twaddle perfectly designed to enrage the soul and sicken the spirit, I definitely get a feeling of doom, gloom and despair. Really brings me down. Making me wonder if the world is even worth bothering with any more. Or maybe that’s just me and my algorithm.
Either way, it’s a ridiculous state of affairs. Especially when you take a step back and realise that, like a lot of the stuff one finds online, it’s not even that accurate.
It’s just a bunch of social media madness designed to keep you clicking. To keep your eyeballs on all those adverts. Earning pennies for someone else whilst crushing your own contentment one click at a time. Sigh.
Worst part of the whole thing is that even though I know all this, I still find myself staring at that small screen far more than I should to.
Craziest part of the process is that if you want to check up on this stuff, to see if it is really real, all you have to do is put down the device, stand up and take a step outside your front door.
