Slapstick Festival celebrates satire with an honour for writer Iannucci

SLAPSTICK Festival organisers have announced plans for next year's festival - including reuniting the cast of one of the most-loved political comedies of recent years.

The satirical genius of writer and director Armando Iannucci will be celebrated as he becomes the first recipient of the Golden Baz Writers Award, an honour created to recognise the enduring comic legacy of Barry Cryer.

During a special event, Armando will look back at his remarkable career as a writer, director and broadcaster, exploring his inspirations and creative process.

The award celebrates comedy writers whose work reflects Mr Cryer's values: wit, warmth, originality, and a deep commitment to the craft of making people laugh.

The cast of political comedy The Thick Of It and In The Loop will reunite to pay tribute to the writer-director during the ceremony.
