Drivers warned of months of disruption on key route

DRIVERS have been warned of long-term disruption on one of the busiest commuter routes in the Bristol area. Essential maintenance work on the A38 Flyover at Filton is due to start today and is not expected to be completed until December.

South Gloucestershire Council is leading the “major” works, which will affect the flyover at the junction with Gypsy Patch Lane until the end of the year. The area is home to big employers such as Royal Mail, the Ministry of Defence and Airbus, making it especially busy during rush hours.
A Facebook post shared by the council's roads team last week explained: “Essential maintenance work on the A38 Flyover will start on May 19 and is scheduled to be completed in December.
“Several major components of the bridge are nearing the end of their design life and need to be replaced to avoid weight restrictions or road closures in the future.
