B&D Lambert steers Stapleton to surprise success

TEENAGER Dan Lambert produced an unbeaten 46 to guide struggling Stapleton to what could well prove to be a crucial three-wicket home win over high-flying Winterbourne in the Senior Division of the Martin Berrill Sports Bristol & District League.
The visitors appeared to have gained the upper hand, reducing Stapleton to 140-7 as they defended their all out total of 182. But Lambert took the fight to Winterbourne, who started the day third, before sealing the win with a flurry of boundaries.
Stapleton remain bottom after completing their second victory since being relegated out of WEPL. But they are now only three points behind ninth placed Claverham and trail Portishead by just 11 points with one more round of games to go before the season reaches its mid-point.
Downend 2nds, meanwhile, lost ground on leaders Bath 2nds with a 55-run setback at Coalpit Heath, for whom Jack Kewley hit 86.
