Signs of the times and some that make you wonder

Today's so-called QR Codes are all very well, but you can't beat a proper sign for impact. 'Trespassers will be prosecuted', for example, or – hopefully in humour, 'Trespassers will be shot', as I saw once.

- by Roy Edmonds

It reminded me of yet another, which used to be on Blackpool's Raikes Hall pub's popular beer garden. This read, 'Unaccompanied children will be eaten by a lion', below a large, cardboard cutout of a satisfied looking beast licking its lips.

We noticed one the other week, when wandering the corridors of Victoria Hospital, not a lion but an amusing sign, it read 'Care For Elderly Secretaries'. We knew what they meant but it made us smile. Another memorable sign was in the centre of the pond outside nearby De Vere's Village Hotel. This one read, 'No Fishing' – but was perched upon by a heron from Stanley Park, who clearly couldn't read.
