INTERIM boss James Quinn insists Solihull Moors have the squad to be playoff contenders regardless of the fact they sit bottom of the National League.

Quinn back at Moors - and after a mighty turnaround

A dismal start to the season cost manager Matt Taylor his job in midweek after Yeovil’s 1-0 win at Damson Park meant a seventh winless game for the hosts.

Since Taylor replaced Andy Whing in January, Moors have been victorious just four times in 26 league games and Quinn, the Moors’ former assistant to Tim Flowers and Neal Ardley, says the first task is to rebuild dented confidence.

After the first couple of training sessions, however, he stressed the players should be upbeat for today’s trip to 17th-placed Boston.

First impressions have been encouraging, he says, and his message is simple: “The season starts now and we can still reach the playoffs”.

“My whole time with this club, I've been pretty much in and around the playoffs,” said Quinn. “When I left we were in the playoffs and I've come in and, to be honest, you couldn’t tell this is a team that’s bottom of the league. There's a spring in their steps. That’s all I can ask.

“I just have to try to instil a bit of confidence in the group. We're winless but I look at the squad and it doesn’t say to me they should be in this position at the bottom of the league.
