A CONVICTED heroin smuggler who set up a firearm racket from his prison cell in the hope of a reduced sentence has had his term extended.

Ameran Zeb Khan, 47, was serving a 22-year sentence after attempting to import £10 million of heroin from Pakistan to the UK via London Gateway Port in 2014.

Khan, together with his cellmate and nephew, Sarweeth Rehman, 29, conspired with members of a Birmingham-based gang he ran outside prison to acquire a self-loading handgun and ammunition.
