CHAIRMAN Nassef Sawiris has welcomed Roberto Olabe to Villa as the club's new president of football operations.

- By JOHN TOWNLEY

The 57-year-old replaces Monchi with immediate effect, while Damian Vidagany will remain in his role as director of football operations.

Monchi held the position for just over two years and is now succeeded by Olabe, who left Real Sociedad earlier this year, where he served as their sporting director.

Olabe previously worked with Unai Emery at Almeria more than 18 years ago and also made his professional debut for Real Sociedad alongside the Villa manager.
