Mason left 'hurting' as Rams raid ruins fans' special day

RYAN Mason felt his defeated team did more than enough to take all three points against Derby at The Hawthorns.

The West Brom boss insists they will learn from the pain of a first league defeat after a last-gasp Andi Weimann.

“I think we did enough to claim all three points,’ said Mason. “They've had one shot on target in the whole match. I thought we played an excellent game.

“We nullified all of their strengths. We know what type of team they are and what moments they play for. I thought we nullified them, pretty much the whole game.

“I think we were unfortunate with the goal and the situation, but from a structural point of view, we were in position and we were good.

“Sometimes that happens. It hurts, and it's certainly not what we deserved. We have to accept it and we have to try and learn from it and grow from it”

Weimann’s 84th-minute winner gave Derby their first win of the Championship season and ruined what was a day of celebration for the hosts.

Saturday's match marked 125 years since the Baggies’ first played at The Hawthorns, but substitute Weimann, a onetime Baggie, spoiled the party.
