Heartbreaking conversations of the homeless

ON a cold winter's morning surrounded by Christmas markets, a queue of 150 homeless people wait for breakfast and catch up with friends in similar situations.

The sad reality is that people across Birmingham are struggling to feed themselves and conversations about how they will spend their day are heartbreaking.

Using their own slang to discuss where they'd head after their coffee and porridge it was a choice between two activities 'snubbing' or 'tapping.

Someone who understands all the lingo is Wayne, a formerly-homeless construction worker.

He explained: "Snubbing' is searching for tobacco from old cigarette butts, and 'tapping' is asking for change."

During his time without a home, Wayne went through periods of poor mental and physical health, becoming so unwell his oxygen levels neared 70 per cent.
