US stars among nominees for awards

American sprinter Noah Lyles and his compatriot Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, the queen of the 400m, are among the nominees for the title of best track athlete of the year, according to the list unveiled on Monday by World Athletics.

Lyles is the standout name of the five nominated on the men’s list after winning the 200m and 4x100m double at the world championships in Tokyo last month but there is no guarantee that he will win.
