TMAC finds mines, rockets, after pact

The Thailand Mine Action Centre (TMAC) took aim at Cambodia after PMN-2 antipersonnel landmines were found at an area previously held by Cambodian forces, before calling on Phnom Penh to demonstrate its commitment to the ceasefire agreement.

TMAC spokesman, Col Siwa Whang-akat, said an inspection of an abandoned Cambodian military base along the border in Si Sa Ket found evidence which points towards the use of antipersonnel landmines by Cambodian forces.

The evidence found include notebooks documenting mine-laying operations, GPS coordinates and records of PMN-2 mine distribution, he said.

The discovery indicates contested areas along the border are heavily contaminated with landmines, posing continued risks to both soldiers and civilians.
