Shippers demand action on Laem Chabang congestion

Council offers list of suggestions
The Thai National Shippers' Council (TNSC) is calling on the government to address ongoing congestion at Laem Chabang Port, proposing measures for the overcrowding.
Dhanakorn Kasetrsuwan, chairman of the TNSC, said despite efforts to tackle this problem for more than a decade, it remains unresolved and worsens during certain periods.
Council members reported container transport trucks are sometimes stuck for up to 20 hours per trip at the port.
This led to the recent announcement by the Land Transportation Federation of a new surcharge for truck idling due to congestion, set to take effect on July 1. This surcharge imposes an additional fee of 3,000-5,000 baht for any idling exceeding three hours per trip.
