Shark release kicks off green project

»The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) yesterday launched a leopard shark (Stegostoma tigrinum) rewilding initiative in collaboration with the international WildAid Organisation.
DMCR director-general Pinsak Suraswadi hosted unveiling of the Thailand Stegostoma tigrinum Augmentation and Recovery (StAR) project, which also included the Phuket provincial administration, the WildAid Organisation, and Ocean Blue Tree.
The DMCR worked together with WildAid and Ocean Blue Tree on the initiative to preserve the leopard shark, a now nearly extinct marine species that once played a major role in coral reef preservation.
