Scammers move deeper into Cambodia

Criminal syndicates have built a new fraud hub in Malai district, in Cambodia's Banteay Meanchey province, as a result of the crackdown on scam operations along the Thai-Cambodia border, according to the Anti-Cyber Scam Centre (ACSC).

The compound is located about 50 kilometres away from Poipet, which shares a border with Sa Kaeo, said Assistant National Police chief, Pol Lt Gen Jirabhob Bhuridej, in his capacity as the deputy director of the ACSC, yesterday.

The move comes after Thailand, China and Myanmar dismantled several scam compounds along the countries' shared border, including the notorious KK Park and Shwe Kokko in Myanmar's Myawaddy township, forcing the scammers to move their operations elsewhere, he said.
