Push for bill to protect freelancers

The Klatham Party is pushing for a bill to promote legal and welfare protection for more than 20 million freelance workers nationwide.
The party, led by Chon Buri MP Satit Phueakpraphan, together with Bangkok MP Chaiyampawan Munphianjit of the Progressive Thai Party, announced the introduction of a draft law to promote and protect freelance workers.
Mr Satit said freelance workers are a vital driving force of the economy, generating more than 2.2 trillion baht annually.
Yet, he said, they remain without fair legal protections and lack serious state support.
