Anutin: Defending Thai sovereignty

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul confirmed yesterday that preparations are underway for his potential trip to New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), where he plans to raise several issues, including the Thai-Cambodian border conflict.

Mr Anutin said he will lead his cabinet ministers in taking the official oath of office before His Majesty the King tomorrow, which will be followed by a cabinet meeting to discuss the policy statement to be delivered to parliament.

He said he has already requested Sept 29 for the announcement of the policy statement in parliament, but is still waiting for confirmation from the parliament president.

The planned trip to attend the UNGA is also being discussed with several key agencies, including the Council of State, which is the government's legal advisory body, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to determine whether it is appropriate for the government to attend the UNGA and hold bilateral meetings, he noted.
