No regrets, just golf for Morikawa
Bangkok Post
|July 17, 2025
To Collin Morikawa, the overarching theme of 2025 is to go out and compete as hard as he can.

The Rolex Testimonee, who will be teeing off at The Open Championship, just wants to do his best and not look back with regrets.
"I want to play as if it was my last tournament, or if it was the last round I had to play, I would be satisfied with my performance," says the 28-year-old American golfer, who won The Open back in 2021.
"You want to beat everyone on Sunday and look back and say, 'I was able to beat all players in the field."
Here, Morikawa shares his thoughts about the tournament and how his mindset has evolved with age and experience.
THE OPEN IN 2025 IS BEING HELD AT ROYAL PORTRUSH FOR ONLY THE THIRD TIME. HOW FAMILIAR ARE YOU WITH THE COURSE, HOW DOES IT SUIT YOUR GAME, AND WHAT EXCITES YOU MOST ABOUT HEADING INTO THIS YEAR'S TOURNAMENT?
What excites me is that I actually don't know much about it. I'm going to have to do a little bit of research and watch Shane Lowry's win in 2019 there, but that's about it. That's all I'm going to really get from it. I haven't thought about it too much. Every Open venue has its own unique challenges, and they're all very different. You compare the ones I've played - St Andrews and Royal Troon to Royal St George's and now, Royal Portrush - and they all have different characteristics even though they're all considered under the umbrella of The Open venues. You have to just show up and learn as much as you can very, very quickly, and I enjoy that.
THE CROWDS AT THE OPEN ARE KNOWN FOR BEING INCREDIBLY PASSIONATE. HOW DID IT FEEL TO EXPERIENCE THAT ATMOSPHERE, ESPECIALLY AS A FIRST-TIME COMPETITOR IN 2021?
